The may meeting for the Tau Fellowship was held on May 23rd, Saturday. We attended mass at St Mark's Locust St in center city. That was followed by a short discussion with Fr Ashcroft. We had an informal meeting/brunch at a local diner. Plans were discussed for a possible summer picnic in July. We are still working on a Fellowship work project on a Saturday with either Philabundance (see the monthly link on the Links and Miscellaneous page) or at the St Francis Inn. The 6th annual Third Order retreat was held at the Little Portion Friary on Long Island this past weekend (April 17th, 18th & 19th). Although traditionally held in the Lenten season, it was held in Eastertide this year. What a joyous time. The weather was beautiful, and the Easter season along with spring gave it a renewal feeling. Third Order Brothers and Sisters came from as far away as Canada and Virginia! Marsue Harris was noviced at Eucharist on Saturday and two inquirers, Susan Valdes-Dapena and Gloria Pelaez, attended as well. There was ample time for quiet reflection, good conversation and great food. As ALWAYS our First Order brothers made us feel welcome and part of the Franciscan family. We also had the opportunity to meet and spend time with four Brothers who were visiting from the Pacific Islands. (See below) From Left to right: Br. Samson Amoni, Br. Worrick, Br. Hartman Dena, and Br. Ezekiel. All but Worrick are from the Solomon Islands. Br. Worrick is from Papua New Guinea. It was decided at the March Fellowship meeting that we would test the waters with an initial community service project. We will be assisting the University City Hospitality Coalition with a Saturday lunch at St Mary's Hamilton Village. We will have a SHORT meeting and noonday prayer prior to assisting with the lunch. We felt that this was a location everyone was familiar with and that if our turnout was low, it would not adversely affect the regularly scheduled lunch. There will be no April meeting, as the retreat will count for those who are able to attend. We are looking to May for the community service project. PLEASE WATCH THIS SITE and your e-mail for a firm date. - And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” -Matthew 25:40 (Wood cut is Fritz Eichenberg's "Christ of the bread line") |
